Small moments of connection can have a lasting impact for both the people we serve and those who support them. There’s no one-size-fits-all way to volunteer with CareFirstNY. Our Volunteer Coordinator will get to know you—your comfort level, interests, and schedule—and help you find a meaningful role.
After years in sales and service leadership, Ashley found her true calling in volunteer engagement—bringing people together, building community, and creating meaningful impact.
For Ashley, the most meaningful part of her work is seeing how small acts of kindness can grow into something much bigger: “The most rewarding part is seeing the ripple effect of compassion volunteers create every day.”
Outside of work, Ashley enjoys tending to her garden, experimenting in the kitchen, and caring for her collection of rare plants. She’s a proud dog mom to her French Bulldog, Elle, and can often be found with a Starbucks in hand.

Whether you’re drawn to spending time with patients, supporting families, or helping behind the scenes, there’s a place for you here! Take a moment to explore the roles below:

It’s natural to have questions about hospice volunteering—especially if this is something new!
Here are a few of the things we’re most often asked:
No experience is required—just a willingness to show up and make a diffference. We provide training and ongoing support to help you feel prepared and confident in your role.
That’s exactly what our Volunteer Coordinator is here for! We’ll take the time to get to know you and help you find a role that feels like a good fit. And if things change over time, that’s okay—we can adjust your role, provide training in different areas, offer a break if needed, or help you explore new opportunities that better match your interests.
Of course. We recognize that working directly with patients can feel intimidating at first, so we offer a variety of behind-the-scenes and remote opportunities that are also meaningful in many different ways. Several of our patient companions share that, once they begin, those moments of connection with patients often become some of the most meaningful and impactful parts of their experience. That said, there are many ways to contribute, and we’ll always help you find what feels right for you.
It varies depending on the role, and we’ll work with your schedule to find something that feels manageable. Whether you have a little time or more to give, there’s a place for you.
Not at all! We serve patients and families across Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties and match volunteers with opportunities close to home whenever possible. We also offer remote roles, so distance is never a barrier.
If you didn’t see your question here, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. We’re here to help you explore what feels right, answer any other questions you may have, and support you every step of the way. When you’re ready, we’d love to start the conversation.
